Good tour but the shopping was unnecessary. The morning part was great. They were a little late in finding me but my hotel was in an out-of-the-way hutong so it was quite understandable. We went to Prince Gong's Mansion which was an excellent off-the-beaten-track tourist attraction with a lot of information about Qing culture and architecture. Next we went to the Confucian Temple and Lama Temple. Jenny was a great guide who gave a lot of information in these two sections, though I felt like we may not have seen all of the Confucian temple as there was relatively little information about Confucius. It was just me on the tour and I suggested Peking duck for lunch, so they took me to a place that had a relatively affordable Peking duck. However, the meal allowance per passenger is just RMB 50, which is quite small given that the tour cost 115. I was willing to pay over that for the duck but I feel like with such a high price there should be a higher lunch budget. After lunch came the shopping part of the tour, with stops at a jade store and a tea house. I know at least one shopping stop was on the schedule, but I felt this was highly unnecessary. There weren't any super high pressure sales tactics, but the jade store did have pushy salespeople and I'd have rather done without. Jenny mentioned it was about Chinese culture but relatively little information was given about culture, particularly at the tea house. If they want to introduce feng shui culture I'd recommend a museum, not a shop. At 115 per person I don't think shopping should be included. They then arranged my airport transfer at RMB 200. This was a good price and the driver was very good. Overall, this was a good tour with the potential to be great, but the shopping ruined it. I would make the tour around a 4-5 hour tour and eliminate the shopping entirely, or else reduce the price. I think it was an enjoyable tour but can't recommend spending 115 on a tour that includes shopping visits for a third of the time. I do have to commend them for going on the tour at the same price with just 1 passenger, and I thought Jenny was a good guide at the tourist attractions, but it's hard to justify the price. The Confucian and Lama Temples are very close together, and I believe audio tours are available, and getting there by taxi or metro may be a better and much more affordable choice.
