About this activity
Morning trip to the Temple of Earth The Temple of Earth is a tranquil park in the heart of Beijing that has been designed according to basic Chinese medicine theory. Various regions of the body and their corresponding elements (for example, the "liver wood" region) are assigned to each area of the park, offering a unique way to learn about and experience this fascinating Chinese philosophy. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the park, where you may see local retirees practicing Tai Chi, singing karaoke, or simply taking in the beautiful sights and sounds of the Temple of Earth.

Afterwards, head to the Historic Tongrentang Pharmacy Visit one of the oldest pharmacies in all of China, located along a picturesque pedestrian street in the heart of Beijing. Tongrentang is a long-established traditional medicine brand, and during your visit to this two-story shop, you will find a variety of curious teas, roots, animal parts, and herbs that make up this part of the TCM tradition. Of particular note are the prices here--one long, tangled ginseng root can go for thousands of US dollars, and may be used to treat type II diabetes and hair loss, among other conditions.

Enjoy a healthy lunch at a local restaurant, followed by an afternoon “hands on” TCM experience:

Chinese Foot Massage Massage is not considered a rich man’s petty indulgence in China, but rather a viable and effective solution to managing stress and improving one’s general health. After your active morning of Tai Chi and climbing the wall, soak your feet in a fragrant bath, sit back and relax as you partake of this healing art. Ticklish toes? Chinese foot massages use quite a bit of pressure and generally do not tickle, but other massage options are available if needed. Note: Extra cost may apply.

Herbal Facial Enjoy a medicinal facial using a variety of local herbs and salves to refresh your skin and relax your body.

Acupuncture Try this ancient healing method yourself (if you dare!). Acupuncture involves slipping thin needles under the skin in order to stimulate specific points on the body and promote alignment and healing. It is important to note that the needles do not actually break the skin, so the experience should be painless and blood-free!

Transfer back to your hotel.

Please Note: The Herbal Facial and Acupuncture experiences have to be reserved one week prior to the tour and are only available from Monday to Friday.
