At an altitude of 1,150 meters, Baalbek (city of Baal) emerges like a green setting on the slopes of Anti-Lebanon. The acropolis, famous throughout the world, was built by the Romans as a tribute to the Sun God (Baal). This imposing work has generated many legends. Thus, in view of the exceptional size of certain blocks of stone, one would have mentioned the participation in the work of giants; a scientist would have even put forward the hypothesis of an extraterrestrial intervention

Also known as Haoush Mousa, the town's establishment is normally attributed to the Umayyad at the beginning of the 8th century. After being abandoned in later years, Anjar was resettled in 1939 with several thousand Armenian refugees from the Musa Dagh area
