About this activity
Your Beirut historical walking tour starts in downtown Beirut, where you will see the recently renovated Nejmeh Square, with its famous clock tower that was built during World War I.

Your guide will give you a brief introduction to this fascinating city’s turbulent history and provide a glimpse of Beirut’s true character. The liberalism associated with Beirut has been maintained even during periods of near complete destruction. With the break-up of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the WWI, the city became the capital of modern Lebanon. Today Beirut’s long and complex history is being revealed at new archeological sites in the city.

During your three-hour walking tour, you'll see the impressive Martyrs’ Statue, a memorial to the Lebanese nationalists executed by the Ottomans during WWI. After your Beirut walking tour, you'll return to central Beirut and visit the National Museum of Beirut.

Please note: Though the US Department of State has issued a warning against travel to Lebanon due to safety and security concerns, Viator’s Lebanon tours continue to operate with no disruptions. We are in frequent contact with our local suppliers and guides in Lebanon, and they report that all tours are operating as scheduled. Should the situation change, we will update this information and customers will be notified of alterations or cancellations to tours.

The guide was amazing!!! She knew a ton of stuff about everything the problem is that we didn't go to enough places. But there was very little walking and the tour was half at the National Museum. I would much rather have walked all over Beirut for 5 hours listening to her than to even go to the museum. I was very disappointed in this tour, especially at 40 US. Not worth it. We didn't go right up to the statue in Martyr's square or walk through the souq, things I would have thought would be do-not-miss on such an expensive tour.

Madeline the tour guid again today was incredible.the walking tour of downtown Beirut was amazing, it could be completed alone but it was nice being in a group. The Beirut museum was amazing, beautiful. Watched a video about it being built and loved exploring it after. Fabulous gift shop. Went to the mountains later in the day, made extra, was so beautiful. Went to mount Lebanon and saw old villages and had lunch in the mountains, amazing lunch! Madeline was.my favorite tour guid.

We found this very interesting. We were lucky enough to get into the Parliament area. It was beautiful. We wished we had been able to continue with the group for lunch and the afternoon tour but had not been made aware of this option soon enough.
