About this activity
Known as Northern Ireland’s tallest cliff face, the impressive Fair Head rises 600 feet above sea level and lies about 3 miles from the town of Ballycastle. It was therefore the perfect setting for the clifftop scenes of Dragonstone from Season 7.
On the clifftop, Lord Varys confronts Melisandre about her reluctance to see the King in the North (Episode 3). Later on in the same episode, we witness Jon Snow as he stands on the cliff edge, brooding. Tyrionapproaches and after he bemoans his own ill-conceived strategising, asks what Jon needs - the dragon glass request is given.
Murlough Bay is a hidden gem off the main Causeway Coastal Route. Once there, we will have great views of Rathlin Island off Northern Ireland’s north coast, as well as the Mull of Kintyre and the Scottish Islands which lie across the North Channel.
The wild and windswept cliffs above Murlough Bay were used for the scenes in Season 2 Episode 4 as Renly’s Camp when Stannis Baratheon travels to meet his brother Renly and demands he join with him.
From the high cliffs, we then make our way down towards the sea at to visit Slavers Bay, where Tyrion Lannister and Ser Jorah Mormont, having been attacked by Stonemen as they sailed on the Old Valyrian Canal and lost their boat, have made it ashore and are continuing to Meereen on foot (from Season 5).
From here we will make our way back to Fair Head to complete our Game of Thrones®running tour.

- This route will require trail shoes. The locations on Fair Head which were used for filming are on open land and working farmland; there are cliffs and the route is quite undulating with a steep climb at the end. But remember, the tours will be at a pace that suits you so walking parts of it is fine (that's what I do)
