About this activity

Meet your guide for your 3-hour walking tour at Kalmegdan, the park that surrounds Belgrade Fortress. This is where Belgrade began as a small settlement, and contains some of the older historical sites in the city. Stroll through the Stamboul Gate and the Clock Gate and enjoy the open-air exhibition of the Military Museum.

Continue on to the ‘upper town’ and admire the monuments in this section of Kalemegdan. Get a clear view of the confluence of the Sava River and the Danube River, New Belgrade, the Zemun neighborhood, and the Victor Monument.

Leave the park and pass the ornate French Embassy building. With your shoulders and knees covered, visit the Orthodox Cathedral and see the building of the Patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Your guide will point out the ‘Question Mark’ Inn, traditional tavern that’s a Belgrade landmark, and Princess Ljubica's Residence. Visit Knez Mihajlova Street, a pedestrian thoroughfare that follows the 2000-year-old layout of the ancient Roman city of Singidunum. Lined with elegant 19th-century mansions, Knex Mihajlova Street is protected by law as one of the most valuable landmarks of the city.

Conclude your tour at the Republic Square in the heart of Belgrade and admire the National Theater, the National Museum, and the equestrian statue of Prince Michael. Come away with a deeper understanding of historical Belgrade.
