Altun Ha and Howler Monkey Sanctuary Tour

This day of Mayans and monkeys begins when you're picked up in the morning at your Belize City hotel, cruise port, or water-taxi terminal. After a 1-hour drive north through Creole villages and rain forest, see the ancient Mayan city of Atun Ha rising out of the jungle. Explore the Belize's most famous archaeological site with your guide as you learn about the royal priests and astronomers who ruled here for centuries. After your archaeological expedition, recharge with a traditional Belizean-style lunch and cold drinks.
 
After your meal, take a walk on the wild side at the Community Baboon Sanctuary, one of the few conservation facilities in the region dedicated to the protection of the black howler monkey. See the creatures (called "baboons" locally) hanging from trees and swinging along their rope-ladder bridge. Relax on your drive back to Belize City, knowing your visit helped contribute to the protection of these primates, before the tour finishes at your original departure point.
