This tour takes us to the Belize Zoo! This zoo claims to be the first of its kind; a zoo in which all the animals are in their natural habitats. Getting to the Belize Zoo involves a drive through the streets of Belize City and on to the George Price Highway. The Belize Zoo is 29 miles away from Belize City and contains animals that are all indigenous to the country. The Belize Zoo may be small in size for this reason but it provides the visitor with an authentic Belizean experience.
Founded by an American citizen, Sharon Matola in 1983, this zoo not only showcases Belize's unique wildlife, but also serves as a rehabilitation center for our animals and is an educational research center for wildlife in Belize.
