Lake Como Day Trip from Milan: Varenna, Bellagio, and Tremezzo

About this activity
Lake Como is a treasure of nature, wonderful landscapes and culture. Charming towns and superb villas, with gardens decorated with marble statues and exotic plants will surprise you. In the morning depart from Milan with your professional guide by train and in just 1 hour you will reach the charming Varenna, an attractive village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, looking over the central part of the lake towards Bellagio. Varenna's picturesque lanes and old fishermen's houses are unpretentiously appealing, and some visitors prefer the town to its grander neighbors.

From Varenna you will experience a boat-cruise to Bellagio situated upon the cape of the land mass that divides Lake Como in two. Called the “Pearl of the Lake”, Bellagio's world class hotels and restaurants provide the perfect place to soak up the lake's famous panorama. Here you will have time for free lunch and shopping.

After lunch your tour continues to Tremezzo and Villa Carlotta; the transfer will give you the chance to relax in the afternoon admiring the spectacular mountains and the stunning villas, once the homes of aristocrats, now the playgrounds for the jet set. Villa Carlotta is a place of rare beauty, where masterpieces of nature and art live together in perfect harmony in over 70.000 square meters of gardens and museum. It offers an elegant Neoclassical interior with a sculpture gallery which includes works by Antonio Canova, but the extensive and impeccably manicured gardens which sprawl in both directions from the villa will truly take your breath away.

After the visit your guide will escort you back to Varenna and from there you will get the train to Milan.

It was a really full (and great) day as it mention. We met Renzo at 8 a.m. at Milan central train station and took the train to Varenna (great way to get know to the public transportation of Italy by the way). In varenna we had a break for coffee and a little walk at the main street. Then took the ferry to Tremezzo and visit Vila Carlotta and the beautiful gardens. The third stop was at Bellagio of course where we had some time for shopping and enjoy an excellent restaurant with the best Tiramisu we ever ate and a view that we can only imagine! Actually,I must say that the day was in accordance with the description in Viator but it was so successful because of Renzo itself who lead the tour (our tour guide). Besides the beautiful views, colors and places we have been, he was patient and attentive to all our wishes. A pleasant person that it was no matter where we go, his company make the difference from other tours.

We traveled for 3 weeks in Italy, from Amalfi to Milan. It was memorable in so many different ways. Lake Como...We anticipated a special treat but never did we expect such an area of overwhelming Beauty! From the Lake itself, to the Mansions and small villages that dot the coastline with their local artists and quaint, manicured streets adorned with flowers and then to its restaurants with regional cuisine we were left in awe. Truly a marvel. If the Beauty isn't enough to satisfy then add a well educated tour guide, Renzo, who is local to the area with an extensive knowledge and appreciation of all that the Lake has to offer. We enjoyed The Villa Carlotta and its history, Bellagio and Varenna as well as boating across this unique lake with its special micro-climate. We also enjoyed shopping for silk, as Lake Como is world renowned for silk production! Highly Recommend!!!

We are four people and it was harassment of our tour. No good services, not on time and all things are worst

This full day 10 hours or more round trip is well worth it. The lake is beautiful and the towns are charming. Our guide, Renzo Durini, was born in Como and now lives in Milan and knows the area and its history extremely well. He is also knowledgeable about Italian history and politics generally, so the hour train trip back and forth from Milan was also well spent. Renzo caters the trip to the tastes of the customers. We were able to spend more time enjoying the art and gardens of the Villa Carlotti in Tremezzo, but, if we had preferred, we could have spent more time shopping in Bellagio. Renzo knows a lot about both places--where to eat, where to shop, what is notable about the works of art. We could have made the train trip by ourselves, but would have missed half of what was notable about the area without Renzo's guidance. If you have time only for a day trip to Lake Como, this tour is definitely worth it.

They Lake Como tour was a very well spent day. The sites on the lake are just beautiful and the villa we visited was overwhelming! There is quite a bit of travel, but worth the time.
