About this activity
Get local with Bangalore city on this tour and get exposed to culture and arts indigenous to this city!

Your English speaking guide will meet you at Basavanagudi at 7am from where the walk will commence. Walk along the Kempe Gowda's "Pettah" (old city) area and visit one of the most popular temples in Bangalore. After, make your way to a 'Wrestling Akhada' (Wrestling Pit) to get a glimpse of how warriors were trained in the sport of wrestling a long time ago before the advent of gym culture.

You then come to the main focus of this walk, which is a visit to the last few surviving weavers in this area. They are experts in the process of reeling, dyeing silk yarn and weaving it. It’s easy for anyone to walk into the comforts of an air-conditioned showroom to buy a saree, but during this tour, you actually witness the hard work and sweat involved in the process and will appreciate how a silk saree is made.

Your walk ends with breakfast at a popular local South Indian outlet where you will enjoy delicious savoury delights.

I found this tour absolutely fascinating. Going as a single traveller I felt completely safe in the hands of Ali my guide. Seeing the way the Silk is dyed in the hot and humid conditions was eye opening. And then into the noisy conditions of the weaving looms. We also visited a local temple, the tomb of a Sufi warrior and finished at the city market which was a cacophony of sights sounds and smells! Highly recommend this tour.
