About this activity
Enjoy a 3-hour Berlin cold war private bike tour. The Berlin wall separated the city between East and West for 28 years. You will cycle from East to West, cross the Berlin Wall, which was impossible back then. En-route, you will stop several times to illustrate the cold war era, the highlights of the Berlin wall and cold war tour are, the Alexanderplatz, the Karl-Marx-Allee, the Oberbaum Bridge and of course the Berlin wall. Our Berlin cold war tour starts at Alexanderplatz, in the center of East Berlin. There, you will appreciate the size of the square and its buildings, most of them constructed after the wall. This will allow us to look at one of the most remarkable monuments of the city, the highest in Germany, the famous television tower, now a true symbol of Berlin. You will then bike along the Karl-Marx-Allee, which has changed names several times over the course of history. It is the site of the biggest reconstruction project in Berlin after World War II. The ambitions of the socialist system through the Soviet architecture that some call Stalinist will no longer be secret to you. You will continue cycling along the longest still standing part of the Berlin wall, which is located on the banks of the River Spree. You will be able to realize the magnitude of the system set up by the East German regime to prevent its citizens from fleeing to the West. Today this part of the wall has become an open-air street art gallery: the East Side Gallery. One of the highlights of your Berlin cold war tour, is to cross the Oberbaum Bridge, which is certainly the most significant Berlin monuments after the Brandenburg Gate and the TV-Tower. You will discover its unusual history from the middle-ages to the present day. During the wall, it served as a check-point for the West Berlin inhabitants visiting their families and relatives in the East.
