Half Day
About this activity
Start your tour at Kurfuerstendamm in Berlin. After a driving time of about 30 minutes, your local Potsdam guide gets on the coach at Glienicke Bridge. During a short sightseeing tour of Potsdam you will become acquainted with Potsdam's historic city and many attractions such as the Dutch Quarter, the Russian colony Alexandrovka, the recently rebuilt City Palace, the New Palace and Cecilienhof Palace.

After the city tour you may admire the wonderful interiors of Sanssouci Palace which is one of the most beautiful rococo palaces in Germany. Potsdam is famous for all its magnificent palaces and gardens, but is primarily visited because of the legendary Sanssouci Palace of King Frederick II. This palace became his favorite refuge and is the highlight of your excursion to Potsdam. A walk through the picturesque park of Sanssouci and the Dutch Quarter is part of the schedule during the summer months. Duration of the excursion: 4 hours (April-October: 5 hours )

Potsdam is beautiful and worth the time, but not at the expense of thoroughly seeing Belin. The tour was a big disappointment because it was advertised as being in English but it actually was in both English and German. The guide spent about 70% of the time speaking in German. By the time she got around to describing something we were looking at in English, the bus had zoomed by and it was out of view. When we arrived at the Palace for the tour, all of the English speakers were so frustrated, we got English audio guides and let the tour guide talk exclusively in German to those few on the tour that spoke German. We always take tours when we travel, and this was by far the worst one we have ever taken.

The tour was a great visit for my more limited time available for the trip. With only 4 hours, it's impossible to see everything, but the guide really tried to hit most of the highlights with a bus tour of several parts of the old town before heading to Sanssouci and the Dutch Quarter for stops. I really wanted to stop and explore some of the fascinating things we saw during the bus tour, but time prevented it. Once in the grounds of Sanssouci, our guide was again excellent! Our tour of the palace was incredible, and she led us through a lot of the grounds before a short trip over to the Dutch Quarter for another brief time wandering through the city. All in all, a great trip if you only have a few hours to try to see Potsdam!

Potsdam was beautiful and so was Sanssouci Palace. However, the tour was very overcrowded. It was difficult to hear the tour guide who was doing a good job, but there was a lot of us. Also, the Palace made an exception to let the whole group in at once and it was incredibly crowded. They allowed pictures, so everyone was distracted and trying to maneuver around the whole time.

Join this half day trip last week and it was nice short trip from Berlin to Sanssouci Palace. The palace itself is not as big as expected and only a few staterooms are open for guided tour. Not too much free time browsing around Palace though especially one wants to wander in the fountain back garden to appreciate its architecture. We had 1hr free time at Dutch Quarter for food which was ok. If this trip can be 1hr longer (for free time), it will be perfect.

Too much time on the coach, too little time pausing to see things in more detail.
