About this activity
Explore Bilbao with your expert private guide and visit the unique Guggenheim Museum. Walk through the old part of Bilbao where you can discover its cobbled streets, charming squares and corners, which witnessed the intensive business and port growth of the city. At the old quarter you can also admire its walls, the Gothic cathedral of Santiago, Plaza Nueva, the San Anton’s church and the ancient ruins on which it is based, or the bustling market Ribera, hosting as a whole more than 500 years of history and nowadays urban vitality. The museum was designed by the North American architect Frank Owen Gehry, and it is located in a 32,500 m2 plot alongside the Nervión river, that is to say that it is located 16 meters under the elevation of the city of Bilbao, and that it is crossed in one of its sides by the colossal bridge of La Salve, one of the main entrances to the city. The building is composed by a series of interconnected volumes; some of them are limestone- coated orthogonal shapes while others are curved and twisted shapes in a metallic titanium skin. These volumes are linked by glass curtain walls for remarkable transparency throughout. As you will appreciate, only the building itself is worth admiring!
