Tiger Rock: 2 Dives

Tiger Rock, a favourite of everyone on the BDC team, is the tip of a seamount that rises from the seafloor and protrudes only a couple of metres above the oceans surface. Descending past 30 metres, it is the perfect location to deep-dive with the comfort of Nitrox. It is an hour boat-ride from Bocas and is appropriate only for certified advanced divers. BDC instructors will determine the best days to visit Tiger Rock, based on maritime conditions. As you circle the seamount during your dive, you might pass schools of dolphins, blacktip or silky sharks, and an extensive number of bottom dwelling creatures that hide in the crevices of the wall. You can also see gorgeous corals through the clear blue water at this impressive site , and it could be your best dive in Panama! This is Bocas crown's jewel. Accessible only in flat seas, usually in the summer months, and lies much further out from base than the other, more frequently-visited sites. Tiger Rock is the tip of a seamount, around which youll circle during your dive. There is something to see at all depths here, though even in calmer seas, surface conditions can be rough. This is a deep dive, in strong currents, with schools of blacktip and silky sharks (tiger and hammerhead sightings reported) and a wide variety of bottom-dwelling creatures, including morays and grouper, in the crevices of the wall. Corals are on the small side but plentiful and varied. The water here is crystal-clear, and the site is on the very edge of the continental slope, tapering off to the abyssal plain, offering beautiful blue views. Travel time is an hour plus, help is a long way off experienced divers only. Conditions: strong current, rough entry/exit, excessive depth, and distant location.
