About this activity

This 6-hour tour will take you to Zipaquirá, a small historical town north of the city of Bogotá and home to one of the most important salt mines of Colombia for its economical, cultural and historical value.

Transportation will pick you up in the location of your choosing and take you to the Zipaquira Salt Mine. Once you reach the mine, depending on the version you choose, you have included a audio-guide (7 languages) and sometimes you may have guided tours in Spanish (every 10 minutes) or English (every hour o´clock) -basic and plus- or the private tour guided all the time.

Also, inside the mine you will learn about the process of salt formation, part of the mining process and witness an incredible light show that will make your day truly magical.

Once you have finished your visit, the transport will take you back to the location of your choosing in the city of Bogotá.

My boyfriend and I did this tour our first day in Bogota with a guide named Alex. Alex made this experience just that much better he gave us a lot of historical and cultural information about Colombia, and even helped us with a luggage situation we had at the airport! Zipaquira is beautiful, and the salt cathedral is simply breathtaking. Once inside the salt mines, your driver/guide will leave you with a group tour that will take you through the mines. This is a very holy place, and a spiritual presence was very much felt here. We took the early morning option pick up at 8am and the mine was super empty. By the time we left, around noon, it was crowded and noisy, so I recommend going in the morning. After the salt mine tour, Alex took us to the most wonderful restaurant to try their local meats and traditional dishes. It was ALL amazing, thoroughly cooked, and there was so much food we didn't finish it american-style, y'all. This tour was awesome, and we enjoyed every second of it. Highly recommended.

The driver, Alex, was great and knowledgeable about the country, Bogota, and Zipaquirá. It made the drive from Bogota go by very fast. The salt cathedral is a very interesting and amazing to the see work put in to it. Worth seeing in person. The guided tours are okay.

Had a great trip to the Salt Cathedral, Alex our guide/driver was fab. Picked us up and drove us safely to the town, telling info and answering questions the whole time. We were shown the town and salt mine, then taken back to the hotel. We had a private tour as no one else had booked, well looked after, prompt and spoke great English. Highly recommend for a great value tour - half the price of some others advertised!
