THE ROUTE:
 Your guide will pick you up at 7 AM in the lobby of your hotel. More than a destination, Villa de Leyva is a route through the heart of the Andes. There is a lot to see in the journey. First, the savanna of Bogotá, a plain at 2600 meters high with an extension of about 2500 kilometres. Technically, it is an inter-Andean valley in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, which is crossed through one of the main roads of Colombia. You can see large savanna farms and small towns. After an hour away, the landscape takes mountain, offering spectacular views. The Sisga dam offers a beautiful view to the east. Good point for a good coffee or a warm panela water, local drink that is excellent if it affects the height.
 At 142 kilometres, is the National Monument of the Boyacá Bridge, where the decisive battle of the war of independence was fought on August 7, 1819. Visit to the monument and historical explanation. At this point you take the deviation by a secondary road that leads to Villa de Leyva via Samacá, a mining town on the summit that leads to the valley. This route has a particular charm: It is a provincial road that does not exert as much influence on the environment as a national highway, which implies more authentic territories where you can better appreciate the daily life of its inhabitants, the work in the countryside, the formation of associative working groups (mingas), crops, their homes, in short, it is a great way to get to know the territory and the people.
 And then, Villa de Leyva, a white town founded in 1572, one of the most beautiful in Colombia, a national monument in architecture and a universal patrimony of humanity according to Unesco.
