Bolzano: 2-Hour Wine & Food Tasting at the Novacella Abbey

The Abbazia di Novacella is located in the northernmost wine-growing region on the southern side of the Alps. The mineral-rich soils, the elevation (1,970 feet – 2,950 feet) and the cool climate are all factors which explain the intense aromas and flavors as well as fruity, mouth-watering acidity found in the wines produced from the typical white Valle Isarco Valley grape varieties. The long drawn-out ripening period extending well into the autumn is crucial. The most widely grown vines in the vineyards around Varna just north of Bressanone are Sylvaner, Kerner, Gewürztraminer and Veltliner.
With over 850 years of experience coupled with state of the art winemaking technology, top-class expertise and the enormous enthusiasm the wines generate among their employees, the abbey succeeds in producing wines bursting with flavor and varietal character year after year, to the joy of wine lovers worldwide.
Taste the wines and savor them together with South Tyrolean food products such as Speck (cured ham), cheese, Kaminwurzen (smoked sausages), crunchy Schüttelbrot and more in an atmospheric monastery cellar. Enjoy tutored wine tastings of two white and two red wines. Tastings take approximately 1.5-hours. On request, the tasting can be combined with a guided tour of the wine estate.
