Quetzal Trail Camping

The Quetzal Trail or “Sendero de los Quetzales” has a total distance of 9.6 Km. It is located inside the Volcan Baru National Park, on an adjacent hill on the northern side of the volcano. On a clear day, you will have a view of one side the volcano while you are hiking the trail. The trail is a wonderful birding spot, and a nesting site for the colorful Quetzal. On both the beginning and the end of the trail you will find Rangers Stations run by the local Authority of the Environment. El Respingo station, close to the little town of Guadalupe, Cerro Punta, is located at 2,500 meters above sea level. The Alto Chiquero station, close to Boquete, is located at 1,800 meters above sea level. In our trip to the Quetzal Trail, we will provide transportation from Boquete to the starting point and from the ending point of the trail. It is said that the hike is easier if you start in Cerro Punta and “go down” to Boquete, however on both ways you will find ascending and descending sections. The trail does not have many flat sections. This is not an easy hike. Our guide will be with you at all times. We also provide drinking water and snacks for the trip.
