Stop At: Chateau Lagrange, Route du Chateau, 33250 Saint-Julien-Beychevelle France
The history of Lagrange dates back to 1796, when it was acquired by Napoleon’s Finance Minister. He expanded the estate by purchasing numerous vineyard plots and remained the owner until 1825. Château Lagrange was classified a third growth in 1855.
Today, Lagrange has 120 hectares of vines. Efforts undertaken since the 1920s, including plot-by-plot vineyard management. This results in a powerful, elegant wine with great ageing potential year in, year out. Château Lagrange is also one of the rare estates in the Médoc to produce a white wine: Les Arums de Lagrange.
Lagrange is owned by the Japanese group Suntory who have undertaken major renovations of the property in the past few years.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Chateau Malescasse, 6 Chemin du Moulin Rose, 33460 Lamarque France
In 2012, Philippe Austruy purchased Chateau Malescasse from the telecommunications group Alcatel.
One of the early moves made by Philippe Austruy after taking over the estate was to bring in the team of Stephane Derenoncourt, a well known wine maker to improve their wine making and vineyard management.
In an effort to improve the reputation of the estate, they were one of the first Bordeaux chateau to announce they were going to declassify (from the Cru Bourgeois) their entire production from the 2013 harvest. It took a few years, but starting with the 2014 vintage, things have been on the upswing at Chateau Malescasse.
Today its is a delightful property situated halfway between Margaux and the Medoc. We will have a visit and tasting followed by a picnic on the grounds.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Chateau Dauzac, 1 avenue Georges Johnston, 33460 Labarde France
Chateau Dauzac has had several owners and a roller coaster history. It was bought by an investor in 2018.
The 120 hectare estate is situated in the Margaux appellation. Just 20 minutes from Bordeaux. We will have a visit and tasting at the property.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Chateau Siran, 13 avenue du Comte Lynch, 33460 Labarde France
The 88-hectare property has 36 hectares of vines, of which 25 are in the Margaux appellation. The remarkable terroir consists of plateau with siliceous gravel soil. Planted essentially with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this vineyard nevertheless has an unusually large percentage of Petit Verdot a variety that contributes finesse, concentration and, above all, a spicy aftertaste typical of Château Siran. We will have a very short visit and some snacks to finish off the day.
