Soca Valley Tour in US Army Jeep Willis
In the morning pick up point on the main square in Bovec (parking lot in front of the Alp Hotel) from where start with exploration of the Soča valley by an original 945 WWII Jeep Willis. Driving along the beautiful valley along the Soča River to the beautiful, historicall extremlly important town of Kobarid. The events that took place during the Isonzo Front were also documented in the Hemingway novel »Farewell to Arms«. From there follows an ascent to Kolovrat ridge, historical area forming natural and formal border between the Upper Soča Region in Slovenia and the Veneto Region in Italy. From the top, you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Alps and Soča valley on one side, to Adriatic sea on another. In the time of the First World War the Italian army built here an extensive system of defence, called “Linea d’armata”, now turned into historical open air museum the Walk of Peace. Return to the valley and drive along emerald Soča River and visit amazing gorge Tolminska Korita, a masterpiece, made by mother nature, which carved an amazing gorge into sheer rock. Above the gorge, in the embrace of the Alpine peaks there is an exceptional wooden church of Holy Spirit. You will be impressed and deeply humbled by efforts done by the constructors, who were all soldiers in the battlefield nearby. Next stop will be pure gem and breathtaking waterfall Kozjek, which is not the highest, but certainly one of the most beautiful in Slovenia. Last stop of the tour will be sightseeing tour of Kobarid. Late afternoon return to Bovec.
