Guided Tour to Pinhão Railway Station with Wine Tasting

Pinhão Douro Valley Railway Station
The most emblematic traditional railway station in the Douro Valley.
This railway station was built in the 19th century and welcomed its first train on June 1st, 1880. It is the most beautiful railway station in the Douro Region and was very important for the making of Port Wine, as the wine started being transported by train from the opening of the station onwards.
In 1937 the artist J. Oliveira decorated it with 24 magnificent panels, made of 3047 tiles, showing the landscapes and customs of the wine-making region, particularly the production of Porto wine, from the harvest, to crushing the grapes and the initial wine transport down the river, in Rabelo boats, to the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine will be aged.
The tile work was ordered to the Aleluia factory, in Aveiro, and represents a very rich heritage of this station.
