About this activity
Meet your guide at the equestrian statue at Revolution Square and then set off for an informative and entertaining walking tour of Bucharest, traversing the city and the centuries as you get a great orientation on the Romanian capital. Start with an overview of the place and its history. Learn, for example, that right there in square in 1989 was where the longtime dictator Ceausescu made a speech that unexpectedly turned the crowd against him, thus toppling the ruler and hastening democratic rule in Romania.

Stroll along Victory Street and hear about the origins of the name of the street, as you pass Telephone Palace, the Military Circle and the erstwhile National Theater. After this, walk into the city's historical section where narrow streets and medieval monuments compete for your attention and awe.

Walk past the vast and imposing People's Palace, the home and office of the former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. Learn about the building of the palace and how the meglomaniac Ceaușescu used up mass amounts of energy in the palace when the rest of the country was in a poverty.

Finally, the tour of Bucharest concludes with a sampling of the culinary specialities and local drinks at a traditional hanu or inn. Dig into a three-course meal with platters of local delicacies — giving you a 'taste tour' of the history and geography of the region.

We had a very entertaining, interesting, and informative morning exploring Bucharest with our guide, Dana Toma. She brought the history of this amazing city to life for us while showing us so many important sites,. We especially enjoyed strolling through the quaint, narrow back streets of Old Town and stopping by a tiny hat shop where we met the hat maker himself! Dana also showed us a little jewelry shop with beautiful items handmade by the Roma people. She patiently let us browse while we picked out that perfect souvenir for ourselves! We also enjoyed a huge, delicious Romanian lunch at a charming restaurant complete with live music. During this time Dana was able to share with us what her life was like here. By the end of the tour, she felt like an old friend! Afterward, she even emailed us with suggestions for restaurants and things to do to enhance our visit. A big "thank you" to Dana for providing us with many memorable, heartfelt insights into her fascinating city and its special people!

We had a super tour and fantastic guide! Mircea was very welcoming and had great knowledge of Bucharest. We were on a team work trip and found this was the perfect way to spend our first day in the city. The tour gave us good insight and familiarised us with the surrounding areas which was very helpful later on. Mircea took us to a lovely restaurant for a traditional meal which we all enjoyed and introduced us to some great wine and beers. We also received some good recommendations of spots to visit during the rest of our stay. We will all be back with our families someday and hopefully spend a bit more time exploring this beautiful city!

This tour was excellent, our guide was young, but very vibrant. Showed us a lot of good places and the meal was outstanding. Nice to see the younger generation taking such pride and interest in their beautiful city and country!!

I thought this was a great tour. Not too far or long. And our guide was terrific in not outpacing us. Highlight was definetly the lunch. On many tours that include lunch its usually just a routine set menu. But this was really good with a choice from the menu. And when I checked various sources on where to eat in Bucharest this place wish I could remember the name came up as one of the top recommendations for local cuisine - even on the Marriotts recommendations for places to eat. Tour was informative and a great way to spend a first day in Bucharest.

The Sites and Bites tour proved to be the perfect introduction to Bucharest. Hosted by our lovely tour guide, Emma, this four-hour leisurely walking tour took us around the historic streets of this lovely city. My wife and I were the only participants, which made the walk even more special and bespoke. Meeting at the statue of King Carol I adjacent to Revolution Square, the tour started with an overview of the history of Romania and then, more specifically, Bucharest. People, places and events were recounted by Emma in flawless English, as we weaved in and out of the back streets heading towards the old town. After a few hours of visiting the sites, it was time to sample the bites. Emma took us to one of the citys best-known traditional restaurants - Caru' cu Bere. The three course meal gave an opportunity to select from an extensive menu, with Emma explaining the dishes and customs. The surroundings and atmosphere were also very impressive. After eating, we bid farewell to Emma who, if you decide to book the tour, can be highly recommended. Sites and Bites was an excellent way of orientating ourselves to the streets and history of Bucharest and a perfect start to our vacation in Romania.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the Sites and Bites tour with Mircea. We liked the fact that the tour was a small group tour. Mircea was very knowledgeable about Bucharest and it's history and the traditional Romanian meal was delicious! Mircea was very patient with our questions and even went so far to tell us about other points of interest in Bucharest. We would not hesitate to book another tour with Urban Adventures.

Great way to spend a day! Elena was our guide and she spoke English very well and was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Showed us lots of hidden treasures and explained all the buildings we saw on our walk. The food at the end was very good, loved the place we ate. Highly recommend!
