Snagov Church
Drive to Snagov Church, the only part that exists from the old monastery, once one of the richest in Romania. A place of many legends and historical events, the monastery served as refuge, but also as prison for the aristocracy. Isolated for centuries in the middle of Snagov Lake, the monastery was also sponsored by the mythical prince Vlad the Impaler who built a bridge to the shore and fortified the enceinte in the 15th century. The present day church dates from the 16th century.
Mogosoaia Palace
Next, you’ll discover the most valuable work of civil architecture that still survives from the time of Prince Constantin Brancoveanu who ruled Southern Romania from 1688 to 1714 when he was violently executed by the Ottoman Empire. The destiny of the palace was for a while that of the prince. Created as a masterpiece of the architectural style promoted by its owner, the palace was almost destroyed after the death of Constantin Brancoveanu.
The monument recovered its original glory only in the early 20th century when one of the smartest, richest and most charming Romanian aristocrates, Martha Bibescu, became the owner of the palace. After years of reconstruction, the palace of Mogosoaia was once again an architectural jewel. Today, you can see inside several exhibitions related to the history of the monument.
End the tour with a walk in the large park of the palace.
