About this activity
Follow in the footsteps of Dracula and discover more than real-life ghost stories!

Let us transport you deep into the stony heart of the Transylvanian countryside to a remote corner of the Carpathian Mountains where a castle looms high amongst razor-sharp peaks. Receive a cold welcome to the legendary Bran Castle, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, and real life setting of Bram Stoker’s sinister novel where you’ll unravel the secrets of the castle. Said to have been the possible residence of Vlad the Impaler during his bloodthirsty reign of terror, you’re invited to explore Bran Castle’s eerie corridors and deathly cold rooms at your peril!

Itinerary:

The tour starts in the morning at 8AM. Your guide will pick-up you from your hotel. On the way to Targoviste you are going to get information about the history of Romania or other interesting topics.

The first stop of the day is done in Targoviste, the former capital of the province of Wallachia. It is from here a series of important Wallachian princes reigned for centuries. One of them is Vlad the Impaler, also known as Dracula. Even today you can see the Sunset Tower built for the first time during his reign.

You’ll continue with the amazing monastery of Curtea de Arges, another medieval capital of Wallachia. In this town you’ll get to see one of the most beautiful monastic places from Romania, a real jewelry of the Romanian architecture. To this, add the interesting legend about the workers who built the church.

After the lunch you’ll climb 1480 steps* in order to reach the real fortress built by Dracula. The trek is about 1km long and takes about 20-30 minutes. It is here, in this amazing place with a superb view over the mountains and valleys, where you’ll get the story of this famous and infamous character of the Romanian history.

Before going back to Bucharest you’ll admire the Vidraru Lake, built in the 60s right next to the famous Transfagarasan Road which crosses the highest mountains in the country.

In the end you’ll be transferred back to Bucharest.

End of the tour.
*those who can not climb the steps of the Poenari Fortress can wait for the rest of the group at the base of the hill
