Transfagarasan Highway - World's Best Road Trip in Private Tour from Bucharest

We will start our journey early in the morning leaving Bucharest and heading to Curtea de Arges City ,first capital of Wallachia, Romania’s southern region, a truly charming place, full of history and surrounded by a curious legend. Here you will see a piece of Romania history visiting Curtea de Arges Monastery, were are buried great rulers of Romania: Neagoe Basarab King and his wife Despina, King Carol I and Queen Elisabeta, King Ferdinand and Queen Maria. Curtea de Arges Monastery is the place where “The legend of master Manole” was born. The story is that one of the main constructors, Manole, saw all his day work destroyed during the night. In the end, he could only finalize the work by sacrificing his wife, placing her inside the walls of the church even if that meant her death. After that we will make a stop at Vidrau Dam, one of the most impressive dams in Romania. Vidraru Dam was completed in 1966 on the Argeş River and creates Lake Vidraru. The arch dam was built with the primary purpose to produce hydroelectricity. When completed, it ranked 5th in Europe, and 9th in the world. We will continue our journey, on Transfagarasan Road , it is 90 km (56 miles) long.The road has more tunnels and viaducts then any other road in Romania. As you continue you will see a waterfall and some great scenic spots. On the highest point of the Transfagarasan near Balea Lac (Balea-lake) is located the longest and highest tunnel of Romania. This tunnel is the connection between Transylvania and Walachia. Balea Lake is a glacier lake with clear and icy water. In September 2009 the British television show Top Gear was filming along the road.
