About this activity
Hidden Budapest Walking Tour (3 Hours)
On this unique tour, we'll take you "off the beaten track" through the fascinating and yet unknown sections of Budapest that are not highlighted on your map. During the tour, you are going to discover hidden wonders: romantic narrow streets and squares with fascinating architecture and hear the background stories surrounding them.
We’ll check out some of the stunning Art Nouveau buildings that dot the downtown streets of Budapest. Beautifully maintained and still lived in, they make a perfect backdrop for some great photos.
You will be guided through areas of the former ghetto during WWII where you will learn about the hardships and the everyday life of the Jewish quarter. Observe the lively ambience of the Gozsdu Courtyard - several blocks of buildings linked by one common corridor which serves as home to many shops and pubs.
Budapest City Walking Tour (3 Hours)
Beginning at the Hungarian State Opera House, you’ll hop on the metro for a quick ride out to City Park and Heroes’ Square. There you’ll see the impressive statues of Hungary’s most important national leaders.
Stroll through the park to Vajdahunyad Castle, which dates back to 896 when it was built as part of the Millennial Exhibition to celebrate 1,000 years since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin. See, too, Szechenyi Spa, Europe’s largest thermal bath, before riding the metro back to the city center.
From there, you’ll see the neoclassical structure of St. Stephen’s Basilica, one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest. Then, rest your feet in a Hungarian cafe where you can enjoy an included hot drink and two delicious pastries. After your snack, continue to Ferenciek Square and Vaci Street, a strip well-known for its shops and trinkets.
You’ll then walk the Danube Promenade, taking in the panorama of Gellert Hill and the Citadel. You’ll conclude your tour in the Buda Castle District, where you can take the last of your photos from the stunning lookout at Fisherman's Bastion.
