About this activity
Budapest City Walking Tour (3 hours)
Beginning at the Hungarian State Opera House, you’ll hop on the metro for a quick ride out to City Park, beloved by locals and visitors alike, and Heroes’ Square. There you’ll see the impressive statues of Hungary’s most important national leaders.
After taking a walk through the park, you’ll come to the Vajdahunyad Castle, constructed in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition, which celebrated 1,000 years since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin.
Your next stop will be the popular Szechenyi Spa, Europe’s largest thermal bath, before taking the metro back into the city center. From there, you’ll encounter the neo-classical structure of St. Stephen’s Basilica, one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest. Afterwards, take a load off your feet in a Hungarian cafe where you can relax with a hot drink and two delicious pastries included in the price of your ticket.
After your snack, you’ll continue towards the Danube Promenade, taking in the panorama of Gellert Hill and the Citadel, while snapping a photo of the Chain Bridge. You’ll conclude your tour in the Buda Castle District, where you can take the last of your photos from the stunning lookout at Fisherman's Bastion.
Budapest Danube River Dinner Cruise (2 hours)
Your evening will begin at Danube Palace in the center of Budapest. From there, a host/hostess will show you the way to the river where your dinner cruise will be waiting for you.
You can toast your fellow shipmates with a glass of wine or Champagne as you gaze out the windows to view Budapest’s panorama, given recognition by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
Many of Budapest’s notable sights are showcased along the river, and you’ll have a front-row seat to admire the glowing Buda Castle and the Freedom Monument. You’ll also pass the Gellért Baths, where Hungarians and visitors alike come to swim and relax, as well as the Chain Bridge, a suspension bridge that spans the river and connects Buda and Pest.
While taking pleasure in the beautiful views the city has to offer, you can enjoy the buffet-style dinner and try Hungarian specialties - please check the 'Itinerary section' for a sample of the menu. Live gypsy music will also be provided to assure an outstanding experience.

The morning walking tour with Árpád was fantastic! He was knowledgeable and helpful and personable. We even went over-time because we had so many questions and Árpád entertained them all. It was great riding the metro while someone else made sure our tickets were validated. The climb up Castle Hill is a bit of a hike, but well worth it. We covered so much in one morning! Dinner cruise required a bit of a walk and unfortunately ended before dark, but was plenty long and we had a good variety of Hungarian foods. Views were lovely.
Sandor was an excellent guide. Well-paced tour took us to all the sights. Great to use the world's third-ever subway as part of the tour. Evening cruise was well-organized. Everything was as advertised, and the supersaver price beat all the alternatives. Highly recommended
George was an excellent guide with Absolute Tours.... explained in advance when we were using the underground. He didn't rush and was very good to give information when asked about local restaurants and sights. We liked that the size of the tour group was limited 8 - 10 participants. Enjoyed the stop for steudel at a local cafe. Very nice touch.
Our tour guide in the morning was fabulous and took us to strudel and coffee break, she was so knowledgable and so sweet. I would highly recommend this tour.
