Mount Lovćen rises from the borders of the Adriatic basin, closing the long and twisting bays of Boka Kotorska and making the hinterland to the coastal town of Kotor. The mountain has two imposing peaks, Štirovnik (1.749 m) and Jezerski vrh (1.657 m). Climbing up to the mausoleum of the greatest Montenegrin poet and ruler Petar Petrović Njegoš (1813 – 1851), represents a highlight of the visit to the National Park.

Powerful city walls frame the historical heart of the town, stretching along the edge of the hill St. Ivan to its peak – its highest strategic point. The walls grew successively together with the city. It is not known when their construction started. The oldest parts are those that along the northern gate, to the river Škurda and in the southwestern part by the sea.

Perast is a small fishing place, from where the view spreads towards two famous islets: Gospa od Škrpjela (Our Lady of the Rock) and Sv. Đorđe (St. Gorge). Our lady of the Rock is an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks.
