Stop At: Estancia Santa Susana, Ruta Provincial 6 188, Los Cardales B2814HIE Argentina

After your cruise ship docks in the Buenos Aires port, your guide will accompany you to Estancia Santa Susana, located in Los Cardales. Travel by comfortable coach along a scenic drive through the Argentine pampas (plains).

When you arrive at the traditional estancia (ranch), you will be greeted with a welcoming reception at the ranch pub with empanadas and wine.

Continue your day of gaucho fun on a guided tour to some of Santa Susana's attractions, including its church and museum. Then, you'll have the opportunity to explore the grounds of the ranch while horseback riding or taking a horse-drawn carriage ride.

Afterward, enjoy a delicious parrillada (Argentine BBQ) lunch of grilled specialties such as chicken and sausage, accompanied by salad and beverages (red and white wine, soda, water and coffee). Then sip from a gourd of mate (a South American drink made from yerba mate leaves steeped in hot water) and complete your meal with a pastelito (pastry)!

During lunch, be enthralled by an entertaining tango and folk show of classical music and dance, and watch a thrilling boleadoras performance, with weapons thrown by gauchos. When you finish your meal, watch the gauchos show off their incredible ranch skills, such as a ring race (known as la sortija), animal herding and the cuadreras race, a typical gaucho game.

This was the same tour offered by our Holland America cruise ship although we didn't know at the time, the cruise excursion was considerably cheaper. We were not picked up from the port as arranged and after much delay, we were told we had to get a taxi at our own expense. The port taxi's are expensive but we arrived at the Alvear Palace Hotel to meet the guide Aimee. We waited with other passengers from the Hotel for another half hour . The guide was very nice and tried to make the trip really enjoyable. The cruise ship passengers arrived well before we did and the food and drink was ample but not plentiful. I really enjoyed the horse ride and buggy ride but not the museum because with 460 guests, time ran out and it was time for the lunch. I asked for a new bottle of wine from 2 different waiters and it never came the dancing and singing was good as was the food but passing the hat to tip the entertainment was unexpected but others must have been happy as it was overflowing. I enjoyed this trip but it was not relaxed and easy going, it was running late, tightly scheduled and frantic. The riders were skilled and their horse riding display was entertaining.

The best part about the excursion was the musical performance and the empanadas. The ranch itself didn't impress me but the people working there were very nice. I did not appreciate the 35 minute stop to shop in a small store. I was not expecting that at all.

First class tour guide, pick up time ok, excellent food and very good tango show. Lots of wine, beer and soft drinks included in the price.

I would have given you a 5 Star rating except for two things. 1) The pickup at the Cruiseport was a disaster-the Viator person was late, she had not arranged for taxi, and there was a lot of confusion. 2) We arrived at the Viator office in BA to find that we were crowded on a 14 passenger van/minibus - When the 5 of us got on, there were 16 passengers. The program at the Estancia was really good! Your guide was average.
