ColoniaColonia del Sacramento, known locally as Colonia, is the capital of the department of Colonia, Uruguay. Located a few kilometers southeast of the confluence of the Uruguay River and the Río de la Plata, its historic quarter was declared a World Heritage Site in 1995, illustrating the successful fusion of Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial styles. Due to its proximity to the city of Buenos Aires, it has a strong link with it. There are many travelers who arrive and depart with that destination and also the inhabitants of Buenos Aires who have properties in it. There was a project to unite both cities through a binational bridge.

The beaches of Cologne can be seen from the lighthouse, which has enough height to look at everything that surrounds us from another place.

The lighthouse took more than the bill. It just turned on its light on January 24, 1857, but it was such an emotion of the neighbors of that time that the news not only transcended Uruguay, but reached the front pages of the most important newspapers in the world.

"Colonia has eyes to the world", began to say the sailors and navigators that now could do coast late at night. Today, more than 150 years after its birth, the old lighthouse is in excellent condition. Not only does it show its light, but it also invites the visitor to climb its stairs to the summit to see from there the river and the magic treasured by the wonderful Colonia del Sacramento.

Colonia del Sacramento is a town in the southwestern region of Uruguay, separated from Buenos Aires by the Río de la Plata. It is famous for its historic neighborhood with cobbled streets, whose buildings date back to when the city was a Portuguese settlement. The lighthouse of Colonia del Sacramento, from the 19th century, is located near this neighborhood and offers panoramic views of the river. Not far away is the Portón de Campo, the remains of the old walls of the city.

You have to enter, go through it and go to the garden. It is very beautiful and allows you to relive part of the history of Cologne.

Calle de los suspiros is a street in the Uruguayan city of Colonia del Sacramento. It is located within the old town, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.1

It is born in the Plaza Mayor and continues on a slope to the Río de la Plata. It is a narrow street with Portuguese features, cobbled with a wedge and without sidewalks.The sides are inclined towards the center to form a drainage channel.

The houses, built in the first half of the fifteenth century, have stone walls, tile roofs and ceramic floors. The doors and windows are small and wooden. Although only houses with roof to two waters are conserved, one of the few that maintains its original state.

The Royal Bullring of San Carlos is located in the area of Real de San Carlos, 5 km from the historic district of Colonia del Sacramento, capital of the department of Colonia, Uruguay. It is the only square that remains in Uruguay and was built with a Mudejar style, very similar to the bullring of Spain, retaining arcs and some details of circumference

Stop At: Porton de Campo, Manuel de Lobo, Colonia del Sacramento 70000 Uruguay

El Portón de Campo is the old gate that served as the entrance to Colonia del Sacramento, built in 1745 in the middle of the wall that served to defend the city. At its sides you can see the remains of what was the wall of the Fortress of Cologne. In front of the door is the drawbridge that is preserved in very good condition, and the Plaza of 1811 where Artigas began his liberation campaign. Calle de los Suspiros is just a few meters away from the Portón de Campo. It is the starting point to visit the Historical Quarter.
