Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day

Stop At: Playa de Zahora, Zahora, Barbate Spain
Arrival day. Transfer from airport to your accommodation. Depending on the flight and where you arrive, there is still time for a walk to explore the neighbourhood.

Day 2: Zahora - Trafalgar - los Caños de Meca - Barbate

Stop At: Playa de Zahora, Zahora, Barbate Spain
Zahora - Trafalgar - los Caños de Meca - Barbate: a coastal walk. Partly along steep cliffs with a nice view over the Atlantic Ocean, with clear weather even until Africa; the houses of Tangier can be seen. We will have lunch at los Caños de Meca (sandy beach, freshwater springs, cliffs, rocks) and take a refreshing dive there, before we continue. Through the nature park La Breña (pine forests), along the steep cliffs, to the beach of Barbate (tuna village). There we are picked up, and brought back to the hotel.This walk is medium-heavy and 12.5 km with the highest point being the cliffs, 100 meters above the ocean.

Day 3: Facinas.

Stop At: Facinas Road, Spain
Cork oak forests at Facinas. We drive to Facinas, we visit a small village church : that is where our walk starts. We walk past the old cork oaks, which are still scaled every nine years with donkeys carrying the cork. We therefore walk on a donkey path, winding, stony, sometimes we have to jump over a stream of water. We have a view of a valley with cork oak forests on the other side. We have a picnic somewhere on a nice spot and then walk back. Now we will visit the town of Tarifa. Tarifa is a surfers paradise, only 14 km from Africa, so we have a beautiful view at Morocco. The highest point where we walk here is 213 mtr the walk is 8 km medium.

Day 4: Cádiz

Stop At: Cadiz Town Hall, Plaza de San Juan de Dios S/N Casa Consistorial, 11005 Cadiz Spain
A day in Cádiz with a boat trip and a bodega visit. We will have a guided walk through the city, and will see the most important squares, streets and monuments. Then we will have lunch (for example tapas on the market) and after that, we walk together to the port where we set sail to the other side of the bay of Cádiz. We visit a bodega in Puerto de Santa Maria, including a sherry tasting. We take the ferry back to Cádiz and drive back to the hotel/bungalow.

Day 5: Facinas betis

Stop At: facinas ein Dorf in der Provinz Cadiz in Spanien, Calle Tarifa, 6, 11391 Facinas, Cádiz, Spain
From mountain to beach. This hike starts at the high rocks of the Sierra de la Plata; rather inaccessible crests, spectacular for photographing. The earth path changes into a sandy path, the vegetation changes as well; we now walk through pine forests. There are beautiful views of the mountain ridges and the Atlantic ocean. We reach a 'valley', a gorge where you imagine yourself in a western. We walk past the gorge and follow a steep descending path until reaching the beach. Flat rocks emerge out of the water, there is a possibility to swim, or walk along this wild coast. When we walk back we will arrive at a small charming bar where we have a drink with a beautiful view of Morocco. Then we walk back to our starting point and drive to Zahora. We start at 450 meters altitude and it is an 8 km long walk.

Day 6: Atlanterra

Stop At: Playa de Atlanterra, Zahara de los Atunes, Cadiz Spain
From the lighthouse to Baelo Claudia. We start near Atlanterra, a hill with capital villas and a beach, along which tuna fish swim towards the Mediterranean Sea in May / June. That was already the case 2000 years ago, when Baelo Claudia was built. This Roman city lived off the tuna; the 'factory' is still well preserved, as is the forum, the old streets, the roman baths and even the theater. We pass by a goat farm and a vulture colony (buitre leonardo) over the asphalt to a secret road that brings us to the top of a huge dune. As if you are in the desert. We walk down the dune, visit the beautiful beach of Bolonia and visit the Roman city. Then we have lunch in Bolonia, a small hamlet where we can enjoy a delicious meal with a view of the sea . Maybe time for a dive, before we walk back to Zahora. This is a 14.5 km walk with heights of 300mtr medium heavy.

Day 7: La Muela, Santa Lucia, Vejer de la Frontera.

Stop At: La Muela, 95, 11150 Vejer de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain
La Muela, Santa Lucia, Vejer de la Frontera. First we drink a coffee on the hill of La Muela. It is an incomparable view from this cottage. We can see where our hike takes us. It is a route that runs downwards, passing by a roman acuaduct with waterfalls and a natural 'yakuzi'. We continue our way, which climbs on the other side of the road, uphill to Vejer de la Frontera: the most beautiful white Andalusian village. There we will have lunch and afterwards enjoy a guided tour; patios full of plants and flowers, the old city wall and maybe climb an old city tower. Then we can take some free time. Then we walk back again uphill to la Muela, to drink a nice drink and relax.

And then back for the last night in Zahora. La Muela is 213 meters high where we start, Vejer is at 250 m altitude, it is a 7 km long walk.
