About this activity
With this admission ticket, enjoy the visit of the Civilians in Wartime Museum. Discover what it was like to live through the World War 2 period thanks to the different parts of the visit:
* Ground Floor: The Immersive Room.

On the ground floor of the Civilians in Wartime Memorial, the immersive room and its exceptional film plunge you into the hell of the Second World War bombings. You will start by watching a short film edited from British, German, and French archive footage. It is shown in a room built on the exact spot where archaeologists discovered remains of a house destroyed in the 1944 bombardments, and those remnants can be seen through the glass floor that features in the room.
* First Floor: Civilians and Liberation

Located on the first floor, the Civilians and Liberation area recalls the bombings preceding the liberation. Mostly perpetuated by the ally forces, the terrible bombings caused many victims among the civilian population.

When the liberation came, the enthusiasm of the Norman population was spoiled by days of shelling. The encounter between civilians and soldiers is illustrated in all of its complexity along this area of the memorial.

Many Norman towns were destroyed at more than 70% and reconstruction took a lot of time and determination. The last part of this area is entirely devoted to this challenging topic.
* Second Floor: Civilians and the Occupation

This area will tell you more about the period of Occupation in Normandy. It depicts the uniqueness of occupied France: heavy German military administration, and the formation of the new French State. It also deals with all the fundamental issues raised by the Occupation: daily life of the French population, Norman resistance and the repression that followed, Jewish persecution, and the exodus of 1940.
