The tour was ok, and the tour guide was nice - she was quite chatty and spoke English well. Spent quite a lot of the time talking to the driver instead of us but the drive to Alexandria isn't particuarly interesting so perhaps she didn't have anything to comment on. She took us to the catacombs which were cool - be warned though, there are a lot of steps down to them! It was quite mindblowing that there is paint that still exists after all this time. The citadel was beautiful but as we were left to walk around ourselves, without any sort of commentary, we felt like we'd missed the important factor of it being one of the wonders of the world! Pompey's pillar was quite random really and didn't particuarly interest us. The library is impressive but it's just that...a library. Without actually using it for study, just walking around it was pretty boring. The interactive things were cool but not necessarily something I'd travel 2 hours to see! Lunch was nice, in a nice beachside setting but not really very impressive - it was just a buffet lunch with some bbq'd meat which took a long time to arrive. It's a few hours drive to get to Alexandria from Cairo and I'm not sure that I'd consider the things at the end of the trip worth it.

This was the second of three day tours that my husband and I took with Emo Tours through Viator and we were very pleased with the outcome. Tito was our guide and he did a phenomenal job with explaining everything and giving us lots of history! He was a veritable font of knowledge! Answering all our questions and if he didn't know an an answer was honest enough to say so as opposed to making something up. He was easy going and let us go at our pace. Our driver was Saeed, and he was amazing! Egypt drivers are nuts and Saeed navigated the traffic expertly! Got us to all our locations safely! I would definitely recommend Emo Tours and Tito and Saeed in particular.

A great trip which left us feeling that we had learnt a huge amount about Alexandria both ancient and modern. Our experienced guide certainly knew his stuff and illuminated our visits to the catacombs of Kom al-Shukafa and Pompey's Pillar with a wide range of relevant anecdotes. Exploring Qaitbay Fort previously the site of the Pharos lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world showed us just how seriously the defence of this bustling Mediterranean city was taken in the past. Our last port of call, the new Alexandria Library, was simply stupendous. A hi-tech library of over 4 million books, the sheer size and brilliance of the architecture will take your breath away.
