About this activity
Our ride starts on Parkes Place West in front of the National Library at Reconciliation Place, with stories of Australia’s First Nations people and their enduring connection to the country.
Joining the lakeside cycle path, your pedal assisted electric bike glides you along the heart of the nation's capital, passing through the colourful avenue of flags and around the central lake where you’ll see the Captain Cook Memorial Water Jet, which shoots a tower of water 150 metres into the sky.
We’ll stop regularly to soak up the grand vistas of the city's national buildings framed by the glimmering lake in front and forested peaks behind — keep your camera handy to capture the epic views.
After getting to know the heart of the city we’ll head into the parklands around the lake to uncover the natural character of the capital. Perhaps we’ll meet some friendly black swans and water birds cruising the lake's shoreline, while also learning more about the wildlife that calls the lake and its nature parks their home.
Emerging out of the parklands to a strip of lakeside cafes is the perfect excuse for a short break to sample a coffee or try an exotic smoothie (drinks and snacks are at your own cost). While you relax, your guide will be happy to share local tips on how to experience the best of Canberra.
It’s a short but scenic ride to complete this 15-kilometre circuit around the lake, pausing along the way to admire a lakeside sculpture or two, or just smile at the antics of the local water birds.
With safe and serene cycle paths, stunning natural beauty, and great coffee, it’s no surprise the locals love cycling around our gorgeous lake!
About our bikes: If you can ride a bike you can ride an electric bike. No licence needed! Our easy-to-use electric bikes make riding a breeze for all levels of fitness… so you can focus on what’s out there and not on the pedal pushing. All fun and no sweat!
We provide helmets, instructions and a chance to practice on the bikes before we set off. The bikes are equipped with comfy seats and handlebar bags for your phone, camera and other essentials. We stick mainly to cycle paths well away from the cars and take plenty of stops so you can discover the true nature of the city and take in the vistas.
