DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition — Journey from Sketch to Screen is on show at the National Museum of Australia from 12 September 2019 until 2 February 2020.
The DreamWorks Animation Exhibition brings together rare concept drawings, models and original artworks, interviews and interactive displays from DreamWorks’ much-loved animated classics. Take a thrilling journey, from original sketches of grumpy ogres and friendly dragons, to amazing stories and fantasy worlds brought to you by DreamWorks’ award-winning artists.
Go behind the scenes of DreamWorks Animation’s most popular films. Join your favourite characters — Shrek, Toothless and Po — in a rare glimpse into the studio’s collaborative, artistic and visionary approach to animation.
Explore more than 400 objects from the studio’s archive, including original artworks, storyboards and scale-models, as well as immersive and interactive digital experiences.
Character - Discover how iconic characters like Po from Kung Fu Panda come to life, and see their evolution from concept sketch to animated personality. Put yourself in the animator’s shoes and play with your favourite characters in a real-time interactive.
Story - DreamWorks Animation stories are as diverse as the filmmakers who create them. See how stories like the time-travelling adventure of Mr. Peabody & Sherman developed from an idea into thousands of storyboards, and then finally the pitch, where artists present their storyboards to the DreamWorks team and bring their drawings to life using voice and actions.
World - Explore the jungle of Madagascar, the fictional prehistoric era “The Croodaceous” and discover how directors, production designers and concept artists create the fantastical and authentic worlds of DreamWorks Animations most-loved films.
Dragon Flight — A Dragon’s-eye View of Berk. Take a journey through the Viking township of Berk on the back of Toothless in the immersive theatre-experience Dragon Flight — A Dragon’s-eye View of Berk. See the Isle of Berk transform from an idea as you fly through script pages, storyboards, paintings, and into a fully realised world.
