It's a well organized tour. Our friendly guide, Marie, was very informative enroute to the marina. We stopped at a pharmacy on our way so another couple could pick up anti-nausea pills because it really is necessary. Read other reviews and take the pills. I am an experienced diver and I always take gravol when I'm heading out on the open ocean. The boat was fast and there was a large canopy so most of us were in shade. You are not allowed to wear sunscreen so cover up. The sharks were 20 miles out and there were too many to count! There were also lots of boats. In spite of the fact that other boats were nearby, there were lots of sharks to swim with. We saw people from other boats in the water near us but it did not take away from the experience in the least. It is amazing that the sharks are not bothered by so many people in the water. Each person has to wear a life jacket and is provided with decent snorkel gear ( I brought my own). The captain was skilled at positioning us at the right angle and distance from an approaching shark. When they say 'jump!' you jump! Once you are in the water, you must stay one meter away from the shark and be careful of the tail especially of the shark you are following decides to turn! The rules are enforced by the captain and guide to protect the sharks AND keep YOU safe. The time (5 minutes per couple, two times) flies by quickly when you are in the water but it's magical. It looks like they swim in slow motion but they are reallly moving and it can be tiring following them if you are not a strong swimmer. The ceviche and guacamole they offer after the swim was delicious. Although I understand we had to leave the government controlled 'shark area' when our time was up, the time on the touristy beach at Isla Mujeres felt a bit long. There were showers in the washrooms back in the marina so if f you want to change into dry clothes when you are back at the dock, make sure you pack them in a waterproof bag! Our guide had a new goPro and I paid the extra for the video. In my opinion, it was worth it. My husband and I were safely delivered back at our Maya Riviera hotel (farthest away) in an air conditioned bus by 4pm. I would do it again with EcoColors Tours.

Incredible experience! Lara was the best guide. The whole experience is a bit intimidating but she was very encouraging. Boat Captain was patient and friendly. Alex (diver) was awesome. So glad I chose this small group tour for my family. An underwater camera is a must. It was truly one of those once in a lifetime experiences.

This was hands down the best day of our holiday/lives. We had the sweetest tour guide, full of knowledge and super lovely. Transfers were very well organised and comfortable with air con, breakfast (fresh bread and pastries) was delicious. We went in the water in pairs accompanied by a guide. Each pair got two turns in the sea with the whale sharks. Incredible experience! On the way back we saw a manta ray and a large pod of dolphins which we stopped to admire. Lovely fresh ceviche served just off of a beautiful beach in Isla Mujeres. This is an absolute must do! Thank you!!!

Wow Factor 10+ experience! Swimming with the whale shark was an amazing experience by Isla Contoy. This definitely checks off our bucket list. These magnificent creatures are truly gentle giants of the ocean. Kudos to the EcoColors Mexico team (Cris, Carlos and Captain) - awesome service and they really went out of their way to ensure that everyone had a great time. We got to dive 2 x with the whale shark, received/prepared us with great info and got educated before the dive, great picnic lunch (loved the ceviche fish - ate it while enjoying the crystal clear waters of Mexico) and even dropped us off at Isla Mujeres after our tour so we could enjoy the island further instead of going back to our hotel. This trip was a celebration of my wellness... Thanks so much :-) T and C from New Zealand

Maria was a fantastic, informative, and attentive guide. The whole Amigo Tours team is well organized, professional, and clean. It’s higher price is made up for in shorter wait times between swims with the whales and swims of 2:1 with the guide.

Bucket list checked! This was an experience I will never forget! I wished we could spend more time in the water with the whale sharks but understand the time limit to reduce our disturbance to them. I highly recommend doing this - magnificent creatures!!
