Cape Town City Private Art Tour

The tour begins at 8:30am after pickup from your centrally located Cape Town, V&A Waterfront or Atlantic Seaboard (Mouille Point, Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay) hotel accommodation. Throughout the day, your guide will drive you via minivan to several art and culture stops, where a moderate amount of walking is required.
The day begins with a drive through Bo-Kaap to discover how the Malay slaves influenced the culture, food, and aesthetics of Cape Town and its people. You'll then be driven to Table Mountain where you have the chance to reach the summit by cable car (at own expense, weather permitting). Enjoy the panoramic views over the city with Robben Island offshore.
Return to the city bowl area to the Company Gardens. Enjoy a walk through the garden to the South African National Gallery. It houses outstanding collections of South African, British, French, Dutch, and Flemish art. Regular exhibitions present a full program of temporary exhibitions of paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, beadwork, textiles, and architecture that provide insight into the extraordinary range of aesthetic production in this country, the African continent, and further afield.
En route to the Cape Gallery you will pass significant buildings such as the National Library, Cape Town Parliament and St George’s Cathedral. The Cape Gallery is set in the heart of the old city off the Church Street walking mall flanked by colorful Georgian and Dutch facades. Recently the emergence of a vibrant street art scene has added an essentially African character to the mostly landscape work on display.
This visit is followed by a stop at the Association for the Visual Arts (AVA) on Church Street. The AVA Gallery is Cape Town’s oldest non-profit, member-based, public benefit organization and art gallery, showcasing contemporary South African art in all media.
Afterwards, enjoy lunch at Youngblood’s Beautifull Food (at own expense). The Beautifull Food bistro-restaurant offers its mouthwatering meals in a relaxed and creative atmosphere complete with gorgeous art work. All profits from Beautifull Food are re-invested into further arts and culture development through the artist hub of Youngblood.
From historic to contemporary and back to historic, you move on to the Castle of Good Hope. It is now also the home of the William Fehr Collection of historical paintings and period furniture, which have a special relevance to the Cape.
The tour concludes with a hotel drop-off around 6pm. Note that a minimum of two adults per booking is required, and infant seats are available if advised at the time of booking. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
