Devils Peak Guided Hike in Cape Town

Your full day hike will start at the historic and controversial memorial of late British Imperialist Cecil John Rhodes. Standing on the southern slopes of Table Mountain the memorial looks north to Cairo, with the age-old dream of building an empire through Africa.

Your passionate and knowledgeable guide will lead you up the lower slopes of devils peak, past runner and mountain bikers to the Kings Blockhouse. This is a square stone building that stood as an outer city defence in colonial times. For you, it is a point where you can see both Western and Eastern seaboards. Table Bay and False Bay as well as the sprawling metropolis below.

The next part of the climb is on a contour path with views of one of the largest caves on Table Mountain National Park. Walk through sugar-bush proteas and old cork tree forests. If you are lucky you will get to soak your hat in the icy mountain streams that were the lifeblood of Cape Town once upon a time.

As you climb higher the views of Table Mountain's Northern face are apparent and as spectacular as a postcard. Look across downtown to see the resting Lion made up of Signal Hill and Lions Head peak.

At the summit, you can sit in rocky shelters or panoramic outcrops that show off the mother city in all her glory. This is where you can rest and have a bite to eat while your guide tells you myths of Devil's Peak and the smokey cloud that sometimes covers the mountains in this area.

The hike down can take a number of similar paths with just as much beauty to enjoy. Another underrated trail definitely with exploring.
