Private Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens Photography Tour with Cape Malay Cookery Demonstration
We will pick you up from your hotel and drive through to the famous Kistenbosch Botanical Gardens, which is home to our stunning national flower, the King Protea and the rare yellow form of the well-known crane flower, Strelitzia reginae ‘Mandela’s Gold’. This flower has also been named in honour of the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
The garden was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 and is a must-see for anyone visiting Cape Town. You’ll be able to photograph the rich collection of South African flora and the capture the beautiful scenery that the garden has to offer. We would suggest wearing comfortable shoes.
After exploring the Gardens, we start making our way back to the City centre for a a short walk through the Bo-Kaap, a vibrant, culturally diverse and architecturally stunning suburb in Cape Town and enjoy a famous Cape Malay lunch and cookery class. The Bo Kaap with its Technicolor streets is a world famous site and we will visit Chiappini Street as well as a local spice emporium and your photo guide will help you to compose your images to capture these iconic scenes of the brightly coloured terraced houses.
After working up an appetite, we arrive at the “purple” home of the delightful Mrs Faldela Tolker for a very unique experience and one which will give you a true taste of the culture of The Bo Kaap. Everyone is expected to help with the preparation of a traditional meal so you will find yourself chopping, kneading, folding and stirring in preparation of your delicious Cape Malay lunch of samoosas, rotis, curries and koeksisters. If you are not sure what they are now you surely will after you have dined on these delicasies for your lunch.
