About this activity
Meet your guide at your centrally located Cape Town hotel, and then hop inside an air-conditioned minivan and travel to Riebeek Valley in the Swartland for a day of breathtaking scenery, wine tasting and sightseeing. As you travel, learn about the area’s winemaking heritage and ask your guide any questions you have; one of the perks of a private tour is that the commentary is entirely tailored to your interests.

After roughly two hours on the road, arrive at Allesverloren, the oldest wine estate on the Swartland Wine Route. Tour the buildings and grounds with your guide and discover how the climate creates ideal conditions for robust, full-bodied red wines. Then, put your taste buds to the test during a guided tasting session. Sample seven of the estate’s award-winning red varietals, including shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and tinta barocca, and pick up tips on how to identify the aromas and ingredients.

Next, continue on to Riebeek-Kasteel. Situated on the slopes of the Kasteelberg mountain range, Riebeek-Kasteel is one of the oldest towns in South Africa and is primarily known for its wine, wheat and olives. Explore the tranquil town with your guide and see sights such as the Royal Hotel, the oldest hotel in the country. Then, enjoy lunch at a popular local Italian restaurant (own expense).

With your appetite sated, make for the award-winning Kloovenburg estate. Visit the vineyards and the cool cellar, where you’ll taste 11 red wine varietals, including merlot and pinotage, as well as olive oil from the estate’s olive groves. Should you wish, you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase sun-ripened olives, tapenade, olive oil and natural olive-based beauty products.

After the tasting, return to Cape Town via Malmesbury, a stunning town in the heart of the Swartland. Your private day trip then concludes with a drop-off back at your hotel.

Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.
