The Colour of Wine Safari Cape Town
1 day
About this activity
Itinerary
Drawing inspiration from the book and the film of the same name, the Colour of Wine Safari is an intimate full day engagement, telling the remarkable story of South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy through the personal journeys of black winemakers and wine label owners.
The experience gives a taste of the changing world of South African wine, and a sense of how a new generation of winemakers and wine entrepreneurs are reshaping the industry in their own image.
The day begins with a private tasting with a wine maker, perhaps with Mphumeleli Ndlangisa at his Magna Carta Winery, or Rosemary Mosia of Bridge of Hope at her home in Rondebosch.
Then we visit the Wine Shaq, where a sommelier presents a tasting of 5 different black owned brands, and the stories of the people behind them. Guests are introduced to traditional African fermented drinks, and their links to traditional practice and wine culture. A traditional isiXhosa lunch spread is served, enjoyed with wine.
The tour finishes in the Stellenbosch Winelands with the more traditional aspects of the wine industry, but focused on estates that are black owned, or where the wine is made by a black winemaker.
