Itinerary

Stop At: Bateria de Castillitos, Cabo Tinoso, 30868 Cartagena, Municipality of Cartagena Spain

Sometimes the custody of the military heritage is a constant source of debate, so that often its conservation is relegated to the background causing its deterioration; examples such as the battery of Monte San Pedro in La Coruña show that a correct restoration of a military installation, through its integration and contextualization, can constitute a pole of tourist attraction and regeneration of spaces for the enjoyment of tourists and locals.
The coast of Cartagena is recurrent in military installations, given the strategic importance of its Arsenal, but whose state of conservation is not the most adequate in most cases, yet there are complexes of great eye-catching as is the case of the coastal battery of Castillitos.

This is the first time that my friend and I are on a trike. I have to say that it’s a fun experience. I will recommend everyone to give it a try if you haven’t been on one before. The seats are generally quite small. So, be aware if you are a large person. As you will be in the open air, make sure you dress properly. It was quite cool in the morning of our tour. My friend didn’t wear enough. So it was freezing for him for the first hour. With the temperature picking up during the day, the cool breeze become very nice. Russ is the owner and our driver/guide for the day. He was very friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much ask for him. He drove safely and slowed down a couple of times for my friend as he was freezing. The view going into the Bateria was amazing with the bare mountains and beautiful Mediterranean Sea. The Bateria itself was also very interesting. Russ gave us some sheets of interesting information about the Bateria. We all agreed that the place, if developed properly, could be turned into a great tourist destination because of the historical background and the spectacular scenery. My only recommendations for Russ is that he could provide more background information about Cartagena city, eg history, population main industry etc, which most tour guides will cover at the beginning of a tour for new visitors. More stops could be added into the trip to break the bike journey into smaller chunks (esp the seat is not big). As a tourist, we can get to know the city/area better in addition to the beautiful sceneries. Overall, it’s a pleasant journey, thanks to Russ and his friends who traveled with us. It’s also a great experience on a trike with many people wanted to take a photo of you and the trike.
