The Fortress of "Navidad" (Fuerte de Navidad) is a fundamental element of the defense system of the Bay of Cartagena. Its origin lies in the seventeenth century although the current building is from 1860. When it was framed by the plan O 'Donnel the building improved in line with technological developments during this time. Because of its position fire was crossed with the battery of Santa Ana, along with batteries Podadera and Trincabotijas defending the harbor entrance.
Currently the Fortress of "Navidad" is the "Interpretation Center of the Defensive Architecture" of Cartagena and the Mediterranean. It provides an overview of the different defenses that the port has had throughout its history, as well as information about how the every day life was like in a fortress of such characteristics.
The former dormitories of the establishment is used to show photos from the photo album of forts and batteries of the Cartagena port, 1901. The original of which is in the Royal Library of the Royal Palace in Madrid. This album was a gift from the city of Cartagena to King Alfonso XIII.
Next to the Lighthouse of "Navidad" (Faro de Navidad) is the right bank of the Bay of Cartagena.
On this tour the fortress will be accessed by this tourist boat which makes a stop at the fortress.
Later, we will visit the city center and we will have a drink and a tapa.
