Cooking Experience with Local Chef: You cook it, you eat it

Cartagena's typical cuisine is famous for using two central ingredients: coconut and sugar cane. Most restaurants in the old city ("El Centro") do not prepare the classic dishes that older generations expect of coastal delicacies - but we will.

We'll start our day early with a trip to the famous, local market called BAZURTO MARKET("Mercado Bazurto") where we'll buy all of our produce and fish, just like the locals. After filling up our bags, we'll head to the chef's house where we'll begin prepping the day's recipes.

Our chef is a Cartagenera (or, 'woman from Cartagena') who has been cooking this food all her life. She will teach us how to cook the same way her elders taught her. We'll explore classic recipes like "Arroz con Coco"(the original coconut rice) from scratch - made how it's supposed to be with the classic ingredients - all found in our backyard.

This experience is great for those looking to get off the beaten path and for foodies - informal or otherwise. Who doesn't like to eat!? A comer.
