Stop At: Tzompanakis Blown Glass-Art Of Living, Kokkino Chorio Apokoronou, Chania Town, Crete 73008 Greece

Andreas Tzompanakis in 1986 when most Greeks have been at loose ends with the word recycling, opened his factory in his native village Kokkino Chorio and began to establish the first works of art from glass he collected . Many years have been passed since. The kiln from the early days is now decorative integrated in the shop, and been replaced by a larger, more modern oven.

Every day the glassblowers can be seen at their work between of 8 am and 3 pm. The glass is first melted at the top of the glass making pipe at a temperature 1400-1500 degrees Celsius and then brought in form at 1200 degrees Celsius. There is much experience needed to see the right temperature of the glass and then to handle it correctly....

Lake Kournas is actually the only large natural lake in Crete and is located in an enchanting landscape, surrounded by high mountains and olive groves. It is located near the village Kournas, 2.5km southeast of the beach of Georgioupolis, 43km east of Chania and 20km west of Rethymnon. Lake Kournas and its surroundings constitute a very important ecosystem for Greece. Kournas is one of the very few areas of Crete where plenty of fresh water is stored throughout the year. For this reason, it is protected under the Natura 2000 program.

Lake Kournas is a favorite destination for visitors of Crete and locals. It is an ideal place for relaxation and a walk. In summer, a stroll around the turquoise lake lasts less than an hour (3.5 km).

About 30km southwest of Rethymno city you will come across Argyroupoli, a village located at an altitude of 260m, at the spot where Ancient Lappa used to be. The wider area stand out for the excavated parts of the ancient city, the Roman remnants, Venetian buildings and the Byzantine churches. However, Argyroupoli is known for the famous springs. This is a beautiful place with running waters and green plantation, where the river Mouselas emanates. The locals have taken advantage of the springs -with respect to the surroundings and nature- by creating various eateries for visitors. At Argyroupoli springs you will have a truly unforgettable and carefree time, with nature being the star. Make the best of it!
