About this activity
Meet your guide, Joyce Weir, a certified, licensed Charleston guide. After a brief introduction of the founding of 1670 Charleston, we set off on foot for a 2-hour tour. We stroll at a leisurely pace, taking moments of rest along the 1-1/2 mile round trip route. Three centuries of magnificent architecture, social mores, rich culinary traditions, Gullah (African) Culture, Wrought Iron works, renown graveyards and cemeteries surround you at every corner. Depending on each day's activities, some buildings will be open for us tour. Every tour includes glimpses down hidden passageways and into private gardens. We will be able to branch our roots into areas that the horse and buggies and tour buses are not able to see. Walking is the best way to see Charleston.

Along route there are places to rest, a bathroom, and drinking fountains.

All buildings that we enter are free of charge. You will not incur any fees on this tour.

We return close to Washington Park.

Excellent tour! Our guide, Joyce, was very knowledgeable and interesting- she covered history and development of the city, military related facts, architectural points, and cultural highlights. She was enthusiastic and pleasant; and it was like strolling through the streets of Charleston with a friend showing us the sights! We actually ended up being the only two people on the tour; so it was eventually a private tour.
