Colonial Charleston Tour
1h30
About this activity
The City of Charleston was founded as a British colony named Charles Towne in April 1670. Its first settlers were enchanted with the lush landscape of the South Carolina Lowcountry; by the time summer arrived with its intense heat and humidity, they may have wanted to head back to England! Join our licensed guide and historian as he takes you on a journey into the first 100 years of Charleston. Along the way you will hear about the founding of the colony and see the boundaries of the original walled city, learn about the threats to the original settlers (pirates!), and walk down the very streets that our country's founding fathers did. Your journey into the past will end at the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, where your guide will give you tour of the last public building to be constructed with British funds. The 90 minute tour begins at 10:00am on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Charleston City Hall, located at 80 Broad Street in the Charleston Historic District.
