One Day Dujiangyan Panda Keeper Program

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Chengdu at 7:30am in the morning, and drive for about one hour to Dujiangyan Panda Base.
After registration at the base, wear work uniform, gloves and volunteer’s card to meet the professional keepers. Receive a briefing about the full day volunteer work and your Panda Keeper Day will officially get started. During the process, you will be supervised by the panda keepers and escorted by your guide who helps for translating and making your go more smoothly during the whole process.
And the program follows the steps below:
Clean the enclosure
Your first task is going to be cleaning the indoor and outdoor enclosure. This involves sweeping out leftover bamboos, putting the fresh in, clearing panda poo as well as washing the floor with water to give the pandas a comfortable living environment.
Explore the Panda Base at leisure
Take a relaxing walk around the base in the designated area and enjoy its peaceful natural settings. You might see chubby panda cubs climbing trees, playing on the grass and sleeping on the treetops. It’s time to bring out your camera and take great photos of them.
Hand feeding a Panda
The highlight of the program is that you can feed a panda by your own hands and have a lovely time watching them up close. They usually get fed with bamboo shoots, apples, carrots and specially prepared cakes.
Revitalize with a simple lunch
Have a simple lunch with other volunteers at the staff canteen. Tough the meal is a little basic, it is of traditional Chinese flavor. You can take a short break after lunch.
Watch a panda documentary
Watch a 40-minute movie to learn about scientific facts about the endangered species and the painstaking efforts human put forward to protect them.
Afternoon cleaning and feeding
Replenish fresh bamboos and supply with more special treats (apple, carrot, etc.), one more chance to get close to the cute creatures.
Make food for pandas
Make some panda cakes with prepared ingredients under the guidance of the instructor. Here is a chance for fully use of your imagination to create differently shaped cakes.
Finish the program
The program will conclude around 3pm. You will get a certificate granted by the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation to memorize this meaningful day.
