About this activity
Our English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby in Chengdu city center between 6:30 am to 7:30 am depending on other customer’s hotel pick-up. The exact time will be informed by your guide a day before the tour starts, normally after 8:00 pm, by a phone call to your hotel. There is an afternoon option tour starting around 1:30 pm.
First you will drive for approximately 1.5 hours to the Sichuan cuisine museum located at Gucheng village. During your visit to the museum, you will be able to sample some Sichuan Province specialties such as stuffed pancakes, northern style jelly, tofu pudding, and Zhong’s dumplings. You will learn about the development of Sichuan cuisine history by appreciating more than 6000 pieces of cultural relics, relax at its beautiful classical Sichuan style garden and wonder through the organic vegetable garden and the roaming poultry. After this, you will visit the Kitchen God Ancestral Hall. Respected as the master of all Chinese chefs, the Kitchen God is one of the most important parts of Sichuan traditional folk culture and this museum homes the biggest in the world. Worshiping him will remind us to cherish food and to establish harmonious coexistence with the nature.
At around 11:30 am (15:30 pm for the evening tour), you will start your cooking class. You will put on your chef uniform and learn how to cook three Sichuan dishes with the personal guidance of our Sichuan Food Chef. You will experience firsthand his cutting skills, control of heat and cooking secret tips to presentation. You can choose the menu from: A (Panda steamed dumpling, Kung Pao chicken and Mapo Tofu) or B (Pumpkin steamed dumplings, Daqian dry-braised fish and boiled beef in chili sauce). After this you will obtain the recipes of the dishes you cooked and be awarded with the official certificate of ‘Master of Chuancais’ (Sichuan dishes).
Then you will enjoy the delicious dishes cooked by yourself, served with free fruits, red wine, vegetable juices and alcohol brewed with traditional Chinese herbs. Before going back to Chengdu you will relax in bamboo chairs while sipping tea from a traditional Chinese teacup set in the tea house. You can either have some snacks like peanuts and sun flower seeds or play several rounds of Mahjong, the favorite pastime here.
Finally, we will bring you back to your hotel at Chengdu city centre around 1:30 pm (7:30PM if you choose the 1:30PM Tour option)
