Day 1: Tanjore, the ancient capital of Chola Empire

Stop At: Thanjavur Municipal Corporation, Gandhiji Rd, Rajakrisnapuram, Shivaji Nagar, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu 613001, India
Ride 320 KM from Chennai to Tanjore.
Duration: 6 hours

Stop At: Brihadeeshwara Temple, Trichy High road, Thanjavur 613001 India
he famous Brihadeeswara Temple is our first destination in the Great Living Chola Temples Trail. It is one of the greatest architectural creations in India. It is a sculptor’s dream, a historian’s mine, a dancer’s vision and a sociologist’s scoop!
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Thanjavur Royal Palace and Art Gallery, Art Gallery, Thanjavur 613001 India
We will explore the grand Palace of the Kings of Thanjavur
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Saraswathi Mahal Library, E Main St, Rajakrisnapuram, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu 613001, India
Next we will visit Saraswathi Mahal, one of the oldest libraries of Asia This library has a magnificent collection of ancient Tamil and Sanskrit manuscripts.

Day 2: Darasuram, the lost capital of Chola Empire

Stop At: Darasuram World Heritage Site, Gurunathan Pillai Colony, Darasuram, Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu 612702, India
We ride 30 KM to reach Darasuram. Darasuram is home to Airavateswar Temple, our second destination in the Great Living Chola Temples Trail. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Temple was built by Chola King Raja Raja II in the 12th century AD. TThe temple gets its name after Airavat the white elephant of Lord Indra who came here to worship.

Day 3: Gangaikonda Cholapuram, the second capital of Cholas

Stop At: Gangaikonda Cholapuram, Cholapuram, Thanjavur India
Our final destination in the Great Living Chola Temples Trail is Gangaikondacholapuram, a city built in 1025 by Rajendra Chola, son of the famous Chola emperor Raja Raja. It was meant to commemorate his victory over the Pala Empire across the Ganges. Gangaikonda Cholapuram served as the capital of the mighty Chola Empire for 250 years and is most famous for its Shiva Temple.
